“I am a 60-year-old retired critical care nurse who has been suffering sinus problems since I started junior high school. I believe these allergies were inherited, as from an early age, I can remember my mother boiling glass syringes and injecting herself with “allergy” medicine. I remember taking 4-6 Anacin® tablets a day to ward off sinus headaches, get through my school day and do my homework in the evening. When I did get sinus headaches, I could not concentrate, light hurt my eyes, and I’d feel “spaced out”; the only way to cure the headache was to take more Anacin®, put Mentholatum under my nose, lay a very warm towel over my eyes, and go back to bed for hours. These “sinus attacks” would also induce nausea from the pain so I couldn’t eat, blur my vision, and make my head pound so bad it would make me cry. I am amazed, after being a nurse for so long, that I didn’t have bleeding ulcers from the Anacin before I graduated from high school.
In the last few years, my sinus headaches are much rarer, but I suffer from red, itchy, teary eyes, frequent nasal stuffiness and/or nasal discharge, sneezing and coughing. I was sure I alone was keeping the (Kleenex) tissue business alive. When I expressed interest in starting the allergy treatments with LAX, Dr. Mooney’s enthusiasm about the procedure was infectious. On a routine visit for a lower back injury, he offered to do a quick “scan” on me. The result was a 2-page list of my allergies (trees, shrubs, bushes, flowers, herbs, etc.). The most blatant was oak, as I have oak trees around my house and neighborhood, as well as a number of pieces of oak furniture in my house. I was astounded, and also a bit saddened to learn I was also allergic to day lilies, bleeding heart and daisies, as well as much-loved garlic, lavender, rosemary, dill and mustard. My 2 cats were relieved to know I was not allergic to them – I didn’t even see a reference to “cats” until my 6th treatment (I would not have given them up anyway).
I can now work in my flower/shrub/herb gardens without sneezing. My cats, I have learned, are (thankfully) not a major problem. While I occasionally have “sneezey” or “stuffed up” days, they are amazingly almost non-existent anymore. I have dropped down to only 1-2 sinus pills a day and I have only completed 8 of the 12 treatments.4. What would you tell other people about Laser Allergy Treatment?
As a critical care nurse for over 30 years, I understand the “onion” analogy of “peeling away” allergies and how the body reacts to them, and the concept of “retraining” neural pathways to NOT react to these allergies the way they did before. Laser therapy is a technology that is amazing. It has already helped me, and I can’t say enough about this procedure that is painless, non-invasive, and fascinating at the same time.
I have enthusiastically told people my story of how this LAX treatment has helped me and will continue to do so every chance I get. Luckily, I did not have bleeding ulcers when I got to nursing school, not had problems with prescriptions/over-the-counter medications since then. I have had such great results with LAX that I am confident I will be completely off sinus pills by the time I finish the complete cycle of treatments – only 4 more to go! If you have allergies to anything, I urge you to research this treatment and find someone who can offer this “cure” to you. I am a firm believer in its effectiveness. I can work in my garden, add garlic/ dill/ rosemary to my food, love my cats, and sleep at night with a light misting of saline drops (not medications) when I go to bed.
